Where do you find inspiration to post?

Hello, my pretties! How are you all? Doing well and staying safe, I hope! I’ve been doing well enough, still working part time, though I suspect it will end soon as work is picking up quickly and our customers are going back to work! As I still have time to blog, I’ll take advantage of it and try to keep both of my blogs updated until work swallows me again!

Speaking of blogs, I would love to know where you, my blogger friends, get inspiration for your posts!

As for me… everywhere would be a good way to say it. Shower thoughts, doing the dishes thoughts, reading some other blog, a conversation with friends, a book I’m reading… pretty much any and everything can inspire me. Whenever I am reading more blogs, I always get inspired to share my own take in whatever my fellow bloggers have written about, though it usually happens after a few weeks, as I keep a pretty long list of themes.

I am curious about you all, though. Is there any specific brainstorming exercise you swear by? Or do you, like me, take inspiration from everything around you?

I’d love to hear from you in the comments!

See you on the next post!

  1. I write five humor columns a week and it gets TOUGH to find that many topics. They might come from a phrase I hear on television… or a label on a food product… or just an incoherent thought just as I wake up. I hope that explained nothing, Jay…

    1. That explained nothing and I have no idea what you’re talking about :D Thanks for sharing, I really don’t know how you manage, I just hope you keep going because your blog is amazing (even though I’m always super late on reading your posts)!

  2. I write about what is on my mind enough to motivate me to write. Yes, it’s that simple and that complicated all at the same time. If you follow my blog (you do), you know I write quite a bit about my home-brew D&D campaign. The rest of my “content” is based on what I’m thinking on hard enough to want to write it out.
I guess I get things rolling around in my head that I decide are just easier to work through if I write them out. My blog posts definitely do no reflect everything that motivates me to write, of course. I don’t just put every personal thought and/or opinion on the blog. But if what I want to write about coincides with what I would consider as something worth posting, well, it goes there for anyone to see.
As far as inspiration goes, though, it comes from everywhere. Conversations will set my muse to work. Shows and movies are definitely good sources. Of course, there are video games and tabletop RPGs :-) Reading provokes a lot of thought and thus, inspiration to write.
I’m not too proud to steal ideas, either. I don’t plagiarize or not give credit to the source of the idea, but I will make use of something from someone else and let that be a seed for my muse. Like I said, inspiration comes from everywhere.

    1. I agree with everything you’ve said, though I’ll make a point of saying I don’t think ideas can be stolen. Of course you can steal the execution, but ideas are a dime a dozen. Taking for a lame example, if 35 bloggers write posts on “what I ate for breakfast”, you’ll have 35 different posts with the exact same idea behind them. Just some food for thought. Hope you’re doing well!

  3. Oh gosh. That’s a question.

Sometimes it’s so easy. I just have ideas as I go around with my daily life. Other times … not so much. And my blog format is different from most blogs too–more structured and less chatty–so I really *need* proper ideas. It’s been pretty hard this last while with everything that’s been happening in the world. Now, I often have to sit down with paper and a pen and jot things down until I stumble onto a tangent I like enough to turn into something.

    1. I can only imagine it’s harder. I post only gibberish and am finding it somewhat hard, I can’t imagine what it’s like for you! The one silver lining is that we all know things are hard, so most reasonable people know these are not normal times! And there’s always the older stuff we can all look at to get our fix! Take good care of yourself! <3

  4. I find inspiration in books or within the weird monthly snippets of the “All the News that Fits” section of my monthly newspaper. Sometimes I find inspiration in a picture or a prompt, or simply by sitting down and thinking something over. It is hard to pinpoint one source, there are so many. :)

    1. I can imagine! I think this is the fun part of inspiration, it is usually completely random and once you try to explain it, it’s almost impossible, even though we’re using words for the “trade” all the time. :)

  5. Ooh, gosh. The thing is I have a lot of inspiration but having to sit on a stack of books I need to review (some I have to remind myself that I don’t need to, I just need to leave a word or two on goodreads), I don’t get enough time to write about other things purely for the sake of clearly loving what I get to write about! But that 100% needs to change, so I’m on a sort of hiatus until I figure out what I really want to be blogging about. But isn’t just that the continual existential crisis of every blogger?

    1. Ha. I guess you have a point. We’re always running around like headless chickens trying to find a balance between putting out content and writing what we love!
