There’s no place like home

Hello, everyone! How are you all doing? Well, I hope! I’m fine, and finally back home from my vacation. I actually got home Friday at night, but I was way too tired to do pretty much anything other than resting. I’ll be going back to work tomorrow, and I haven’t even fully unpacked yet. I’ll get there.

Now that I’m home, I can sum up what went on during my days away in a much better way. I’ll probably do the legend I mentioned later on, but I’ll do my best not to keep you waiting for too long, I promise!

Day 1, Sunday the 23rd, we didn’t do much more than travel . We woke up early and took a cab after breakfast to the Salvador airport (SSA). Our first flight was to Guarulhos (GRU) and then we took another one to Navegantes (NVT) and then the transfer to Balneário Camboriú, the city where we stayed for the duration of our time there. We only went out to eat something and do some necessary shopping, and then we all went to bed to wake up early the next morning.

Day 2, Monday the 24th, we went to do the city tour. We visited the aquarium, with all kinds of animals – turtles, penguins, an octopus, jellyfish, otters, and even sharks. We then went to the car museum and the Pirate Adventure. Next up, we took the cable car and crossed to the beach on the other side, where we stopped for lunch and then made our way back to the hotel.

Day 3, Tuesday the 25th would originally be a free day, but we chose to book a visit to two cities. The first city was Nova Trento, of Italian colonization. We went to a winery first, run by the Girola family. We got to do a tasting, and their wine is delicious. We didn’t buy any, because we didn’t want to have to deal with bringing it all home. We went to a Catholic sanctuary next. I am not a Catholic, or religious at all, but I can share the local lore about the saint the sanctuary is dedicated to later. We then had lunch and moved on to a city called Brusque. It’s a shopping hub for clothing and shoes, but I didn’t see anything that special there. We all bought something at the shoe store, and nothing at the clothing mall. From there, we all went back to our hotels.

Day 4, Wednesday the 26th, we went to two cities as well, Blumenau, where we have the Brazilian Oktoberfest, where we visited the Biergarten, the city hall and the German Village, where they hold the main events of the Oktoberfest, for lunch. Pomerode is a town of Pomeranian colonization, but it didn’t really see much of it, sadly.

Day 5, Thursday the 27th was our last full day in the state we went to visit. Our day was spent in Florianópolis, the capital city. We visited the public market, did some shopping at the farmer’s market and then moved on to Joaquina Beach for lunch – a really delicious grilled halibut – and some time spent at the beach before we went back to the hotel. It was a long day, and I wish we’d had more time at the markets, but it was overall a decent day.

Last day, the way home. We woke up early, had breakfast and waited for the bus to the NVT airport. The flight to Congonhas (CGH) was very short and everything ran smoothly. The flight back to SSA was a very different story. We were supposed to board the flight at 16:10 and take off at 16:40. By the time we were supposed to be taking off, we were at the third gate and still waiting for our plane to touch down. Once it did, the flight was smooth enough, even though we went through some turbulence mid-flight. We got to SSA at around 19:10 and got a cab home. It was a very exhausting day, but it wasn’t too bad.

I’ll be resuming the normal posting schedule soon!

  1. It sounds like a decent time was had. Welcome home, though. I don’t mind seeing the sites abroad, but I will not deny being a homebody, too. You’re right. There’s no place like home.

    1. It wasn’t bad at all! Honestly, hotel life is fun, but the first night in my own bed and the first coffee in my own mug were absolutely priceless! Thanks for the welcome! I think leaving home for around a week is just the right time to have fun and miss it a little!
